Camping is a great vacation idea for many people looking to get away from it all. Whether going alone or with a significant other, camping is a great way to enjoy the outdoors in an eco-friendly fashion. If you’re planning on going out into the wild this summer, here are my top five tips for camping:

1) Make sure your friends know where you’re going

While having fun at camp, sometimes accidents happen, resulting in people getting lost or injured. As an added measure of safety, make sure that someone knows where you are and how long you plan on staying. That way, if something does happen, they can alert search and rescue parties right away.

2) Go swimming

Whether you’re at a campground or in the middle of nowhere, there are plenty of places to go swimming. Be sure to check that the spot is clean and has no dangerous currents or rocks before diving in, though.

3) Have fun.

Camping shouldn’t be work – it should be fun. Make sure you take time out of each day to do something you enjoy (and bring anything required for those activities as well.)

4) Pack smart

Packing can be annoying enough without having to worry about whether your supplies will fit into your tent/backpack/car. To make things easier, start packing up all your camping gear a week ahead of time and organize everything by what will need bringing and where they go. Then all you have to do is put it back in your trunk/backpack and go.

5) Bring a book.

It’s unfortunate, but cell service isn’t always reliable – especially when hiking. To make sure you have something to do if this happens, bring along a book or magazine depending on your preference of reading material.
